DIY Crochet Lips Sweater
Happy Valentine's Day!!! I hope you are feeling so loved today.
I love finding inspiration from fashion collections each season. I recently found the Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Spring 2016 collection and fell in love with this lip sweater. This week I decided to try my hand at making my own crochet version! I just happened to have this sweater lying around just waiting for a makeover. Thank you, Old Navy clearance! The best $7 I've spent in a long time. :)
This sweater makeover is super easy and I will definitely be wearing this one far beyond Valentine's Day. Here's how you can make your own! Scroll down for the pattern...
Materials:
- Chunky weight yarn, I used Rowan Big Wool in Lipstick (How perfect!)
- Size P hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- A sweater
Crochet Lip Pattern: (adapted from Simply Collectible)
Top Lip:
Chain 15
Starting in second chain from hook, sc in the next two stitches, half double crochet in the next stitch, double crochet twice in the next stitch, *treble crochet twice in the next stitch, repeat from * two time total, single crochet in the next two stitches, *treble crochet twice in the next stitch, repeat from * two times total, double crochet twice in the next stitch, half double crochet in the next stitch, single crochet in the last two stitches.
Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.
Bottom Lip:
Chain 13.
Starting in the second chain from the hook, single crochet in the next two stitches, double crochet in the next stitch, double crochet twice in the next stitch, treble crochet, *treble crochet twice in the next stitch, repeat from * twice total, treble crochet in the next stitch, double crochet twice in the next stitch, double crochet in the next stitch, single crochet in the last two stitches.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Assembly:
1. Take your tapestry needle and thread it with the long tail.
2. Sew the corners of the top lip to the bottom lip so it is all one pieces.
3. Use safety pins to attach the lip to the sweater where you wish to sew it in place.
3. Sew around the entire edge of the lip, securing it to the sweater.
4. Weave the ends in to the crochet and snip the excess with scissors.
